KOSTBIR Oil Spill Response Drill
The eighth Oil Spill Response Drill, jointly organized by KOSTBIR (Kocaeli Free Zone Shipyards Association) and MARE, was successfully conducted on December 18, 2024, with the participation of our shipyard in the Başiskele area of İzmit Bay, Kocaeli Free Zone.
The drill was attended by observers including the Kocaeli Regional Port Authority, Free Zone Director Mr. Osman, and KOSBAŞ General Manager Ms. Çiğdem.
The objectives of the drill, aimed at raising awareness about environmental and marine pollution, were as follows:
- Testing equipment performance through response operations at sea and on land.
- Evaluating teamwork and organizational skills, focusing on individual capabilities and team interaction.
- Enhancing the facility personnel’s ability to take charge of response efforts, manage operations, and utilize resources effectively.
- Simulating targeted response actions through scenario discussions involving facility managers and the emergency response company.
- Ensuring rapid and efficient communication and coordination between the coastal facility, emergency response teams, and relevant official authorities.
- Identifying critical priorities for real-life incidents through the drill.
- Improving equipment handling skills of the coastal facility and all participating personnel.
This successful drill not only provided significant gains in environmental awareness and emergency response preparedness but also served as a valuable experience for all participants.
